John R. Ewing, 69, Fairfield, died at 2:10 p.m., Sunday, Dec 25, 1988, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.  He had been ill for several years with heart and lung complications.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Johnson Chapel with Rev. Raymond Watson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday (tonight) from 6-9 p.m.

Mr. Ewing was born on Feb. 7, 1919 in Wayne County, the son of Charles and Lena (Kuykendahl) Ewing.  On May 4, 1940 he wed Mary Ellen Jesop in Fairfield.

Mr. Ewing retired six years ago from Airtex where he had worked for 25 years as a machinist.

He was a member of the Eastern Star Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church of Fairfield.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen, one son, Dennis of Noble; three sisters, Mrs. Orville (Gladys) Grubb of Fairfield, Mrs. Marion (Wanda) Hummel of Rogers, Ark., and Mrs William (Ella) Hicks of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ewing was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
