Rev. Niles Stone. 71, a well-known United Methodist minister and resident of the United Methodist Village at Lawrenceville, Ill., died at 12 05 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Village. He had been in ill health for the past ten years.
Services were held Thursday (today) at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church at Lawrenceville with burial at Bethel Cemetery, located between Lancaster and St. Francisville, Ill.
Rev. Stone was born in Lucan Township in Wabash County, Ill., on January 26, 1917, to James and Ida Stone. He married Essie Dicus on Oct 5, 1938. She preceded him in death on Dec 6, 1982.
Rev. Stone was a retired United Methodist pastor, having started his
ministry on the Wayne City Charge in 1938. He also pastored on the
Goldengate Charge from 1955-1957 and on the Norris City Charge from 1957-1970.
He had also
served at Rose Hill, Falmouth, Carrier Mills, Pocahontas, Oblong, and
the Browns Charge.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Janet) Adams of Normal, Ill., and Mrs. Brad (Donna) Henson of Geff; two sons, James Stone of Winter Haven, Fla., and Eugene Stone of Charleston; two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Catherine) Bunting of Ellery, and Mrs. Ray (Coe) Todd of North Carolina; three brothers, Roy Stone of Whiteheath, Ill., Fred Stone of Monticello and Otto Stone of rural Mt. Carmel; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
