Mrs. Dale (Virginia) Matthews, 84, longtime Fairfield resident, died at 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 1996, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital  She had suffered a stroke last January and has been in Skilled Care at the hospital since February.

Mrs. Matthews worked in Arnold's Apparel for a number of years, at the Farmers Store Grocery and also in the County Clerk's and County Treasurer's offices.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Johnson Funeral Home, with Dr. Paul Simpkins officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Visitation at the J@hnson Chapel will be from six to eight o'clock Wednesday evening.

She was born at Iola Oct. 18, 1911, the daughter of Douglas and Mary Vincent.  On Feb. 25, 1931, she was married to Dale Matthews.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church here and the Every Wednesday Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers.

Surviving are her husband; one son, L.D., of El Paso, Tex.; one daughter, Mrs. James (Nancy) Coale, of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
