Jewel Vernon Price Dies, Was Reared In Cisne Area

Jewel Vernon Price, 84, of Clay City, died at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday July 30, 1996 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

He was a farmer and lawn mower repairman for many years.

A former resident of Carmi, Mr. Price was reared in the Cisne area of Wayne County.

Funeral rites will be at 10 a.m.  Friday at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi, with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, Fairfield. Visitation at the funeral home will be 5 to 8 o'clock Thursday evening (tonight).

He was born at Greenup July 24, 1912, the son of Stanley and Emma Skagg Price.  His first wife, Kathryn Hall, and a second wife, Mabel, preceded him in death.

Mr. Price served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He was a Baptist.

Surviving are one son, Edward Price, of Mt. Sterling; two daughters, Sharon L. Shaw, of Clay City, and Mrs. Gary (Karen) Gay, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., one step-daughter, Elsie Marie, serving in the Armed Forces; one brother, Floyd Price, of Elliott; four sisters, Thelma Kingston, of Paxton; Bessie Oakley, of Gibson City; Garnet Foley, of Gibson City; and Ruby Peer, also of Gibson City; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
