James W. Howell, 77, of Maroa, died at 4:50 p.m. Monday, July 4, 1994, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.  He was the father of Cisne Village Clerk Robert Howell.

Mr. Howell was a retired farmer.

Funeral rites will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton, with Bro. Tom Rank officiating. Interment will be in the Maroa Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

He was born in DeWitt County May 11, 1917, the son of Asa and Lena Wright Howell.  On Dec. 3, 1937, he was married to Irene Lancaster, in Washington, Ind.

He was a member of the Texas Christian Church. Memorials may be made to that church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and one sister.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Robert Howell, of Cisne; and Richard Howell, of Maroa; and four grandchildren.
