Mrs. Ruth Otey, 80, of Fairfield, died at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 1994, at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Ind. Mrs. Otey, a homemaker, was the widow of Gilbert (Gib) Otey, longtime county ESDA chief, who died only Feb. 1 this year. She had been ill with cancer four and a half years, with the cancer in remission until recent weeks. Mrs. Otey was a patient at St. Mary's the last two weeks.
Funeral rites are tentatively set for Saturday, with the Johnson Funeral Home in charge. Plans call for a visitation Friday evening. Thursday's Press will carry the time and place for the services and visitation.
She was born in Crawford County Jan. 3, 1914, the daughter of Fred and Beals Parker. She was married to Gilbert Otey. Mrs. Otey was a member of the Fairfield First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Rudy Otey and Ken Otey, both of Fairfield; and Dan Otey, of Terre Haute, Ind.; one sister, Mary Louise Hess, of Evansville, Ind.; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
