son of Batheus C. and Nancy Jones, departed this life Dec. 25 ’97.  Mr. Jones was born in Wayne county, Ills., the 13th of August, 1841.  On March 4, 1867, he was married to Miss Caroline Knowles, who survives him.  He enlisted in the army the 22nd of Dec. 1861, in Co. G, 62nd Reg. Ill. Inf.  Was promoted Corporal, and was discharged from service May 2nd, 1865, at Springfield, Ill.  He was a good husband and a kind father.  He leaves a wife, three children, an aged father, a brother and sister to mourn their loss.

Notes:
1) Caleb’s parents, Bathus C. Jones & Nancy Clark are buried in Victory cemetery in Wayne County.
2) Caleb’s wife, Caroline, is buried in Koontz cemetery in Wayne County beside their daughter, Nettie Carpenter.  The burial location for Caleb is unknown.
3) Their 5 children were: Nettie (Carpenter), Arnold, Myrtle, Mary E. and Neatice (Watson).
4) The surviving brother was Augustus C. Jones & the surviving sister was Nancy Crouch.
