FUNERAL SERVICES
HELD FRIDAY FOR
CHARLES MEANS

Well-Known Sims Man Dies Following
Lingering Illness,
Burial at Pine Oak Cemetery

Funeral services for Charles W. Means who died last Wednesday following a lingering illness, were conducted Friday from the Christian Church in Sims by the Rev. A. O. Jacobs of Newton, the Rev. Walter Fasnaslet of Tuscola, the Rev. John Baughman of Sumner, and the Rev. L. E. Louisingnout of Sims.

A quartet composed of Oakley Miller, Allen Smith, Jesse and Ray Baker, sang during the services.  Mrs. Berty Clark and the Rev. Baughman sang “The Eastern Gate”.  Burial was in the Pin Oak Cemetery.

Charles William Means, son of William and Alice Williams Means was born March 5, 1888.  He died December 29, 1937, age 49 years, 9 months, 24 days after a lingering illness which he bore patiently.

Born in West Virginia
 He was born in West Virginia coming with his parents to Illinois at the age of five years locating a few miles south of Wayne City where he grew to manhood.

On March 9, 1907 he was married to Miss Bertha Miller and they have lived happily together for almost 31 years.  To this union were born five children, three sons and two daughters namely Clyde A., Wanda Fern, Lewis Glen, Velta Fae and William Beryl of the number Velta Fae and Wanda Fern preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters-in-laws, and an aged father, three sisters, Mrs. Gregg Sexton of Janesville, Wis., Mrs. Ross Smith, Metcalf, and Mrs. Paul Johnson of East St. Louis, two brothers, James Henry of Bensenville and Alfred Melton of Wayne City, three grandchildren, Barbara Fern, William Glen and Charles June Means; 19 nieces and nephews besides other relatives and innumberable friends.

Member of Christian Church
 Mr. Means was converted and united with the Sims Christian Church on March 1931.  He was ordained as deacon on August 9 of the same year.  On September 28, 1931 he was elected Sunday School Superintendent which office he filled to the best of his ability as long as his health would permit.  At the time of his death he was a member of the official board of the Illinois Christian conference.

He was certainly a kind and generous husband and father always having the interest of his home, loved ones and the church at heart.  Always an honest upright citizen, he stood for what he thought was right.  He was employed by the Southern Railway Company for 24 years acting as foreman of the B. & B. department for 14 years.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Glen Means and two sons, Princeton, Ind.; Mrs. Gregg Sexton, Janesville, Wis.; Mr. And Mrs. John Miner, Mattoon; Mr. And Mrs. Ross Smith, Metcalf; Mr. And Mrs. Paul Johnson and two daughters, East St. Louis; Charles Terry and daughter, Faye, Mt. Carmel; Mrs. Sam Smith, Detroit, Mich.; William Means, Mr. And Mrs. Alfred Means, Ross Miller, and Mr. And Mrs. Leo Garrison, Wayne City, and Henry Desch, Elgin.
