JAKE PAYNE,
KEENES FARMER,
DIES AT AGE 67

Jake Payne, 67, a farmer who resided south of Keenes, died at 7:15 last night in an ambulance en route to the Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Keenes Baptist church, of which he was a member. The Rev. Wendell Garrison and the Rev. John Maulding will officiate and burial will follow in Thomason Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Richardson Chapel in Wayne City, where friends may call after 6:30 p.m. today.

Mr, Payne was born July 22, 1891 in Wayne County, the son of John and Emma (Newman) Payne.  On December 13, 1913 he was married to Lorene Richardson, who survives.  Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Maynard of Wayne City and Leonard, Lee and Maxey, all of Jacksonville, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Melvin Chambliss of Wayne City and Mrs. Richard Carlton of Fairfield; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Bill of Rochelle, Ill.; and four sisters, Nell Blake of Hudson, Ill., Stella Wilkey of Belle Rive, Bessie Niequest of Mason City, Ia. and Jewel Rhodes of Rockford, Ill.
