Marvin L. Sanders, 81, of Wayne City, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.He was born in Keenes on Aug. 20, 1927, a son of Earl and Gertrude (Davis) Sanders. He was married to Bonnie Austin. He was a retired farmer and worked at the Mt. Vernon Car Shops.Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City with the Rev. David Richardson officiating. There will be no public visitation.Mr. Sanders is survived by a son, David L. Sanders and wife Linda of Wayne City; daughter, Annette and husband Terry Koker of Gibson City; five grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; and a sister, Earlita Richardson of Chattanooga, Tenn.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.Mr. Sanders was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Keenes Missionary Baptist Church.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna and will be accepted at Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City, who is in charge of all arrangements.
