He was born in Wayne County on June 15, 1936, a son of Arthur Chester and Myrtle (Darnell) Buchanan.  He married Louise Hunt on Dec. 30, 1955.

He was a retired mechanic and timber worker.

Funeral services was held 11 a.m. Sunday at Olive Branch Church with the Rev. Leland Ganieany officiating. Burial followed at Olive Branch Cemetery.Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church.

Mr. Buchanan is survived by his wife, Louise Buchanan of Wayne City; son, Bobby Buchanan and wife Cheryl of Wayne City; daughter, Jeanie Mae Shaw and husband Terry of Keenes; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Arthur Buchanan of Sims, Donald "Slim" Buchanan of Sims and Kenneth Blacky Buchanan of Bluford; and sisters, Irma Dean McIntyre of Wayne City and Pauline Millsap of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
