Former Secretary of School
District 11 Dies at Home

Thomas J. Fox, for 27 years, secretary to the Board of Education of Colorado Springs school district No. 11, died today at his home, 316 E. Platte Ave. He was 82.
During the boom days of Colorado mining communities and towns of the Pikes Peak region, Fox was teaching school. He served in the Monument schools in 1889, Florissant in 1890, Newcastle and Aspen and taught four years in Leadville beginning in 1896.
Fox came to Colorado Springs in 1906 and became secretary to the board January 1, 1913, retiring August 31, 1939. He taught in the schools of several other states.
A native of Acton, near Indianapolis, Ind., where he was born July 5, 1862, Fox went to Wichita, Kans. in 1885. His first wife, the former Belle Matlock, died in Greeley in 1910, and he married Margaret Fingel of Colorado Springs in March, 1919.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son by his first wife, Owen Meredicth Fox at Cleveland, O.; a brother, William B. Fox, and three half-sisters, Mrs. Lucy Ellis, Mrs. May Simpson, and Mrs. Sarah Harris, all of near St. Louis, Mo.
About three years ago Fox was given a jewel for 50 years membership in the Knights of Pythias lodge.
The Law mortuary, will annouce funeral services.
