Mrs. Mabel V. Vaughan, 92, died at Fair Haven nursing home in Fairbury at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, Apr. 11, 1995.
She was a postmaster at Cropsey, serving in the post office there from 1950 to 1972, when she retired. She had lived in the Cropsey-Fairbury area since 1940.
Mrs. Vaughan was a native of Wayne County.
Funeral services will be held from Nale's Funeral Home here at 1 p.m. Friday, with Elder John Smith officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Fairfield. Visitation at Nale's Friday will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a visitation Thursday evening (tonight) at the Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Fairbury.
She was born in Wayne County Nov. 15, 1902, the daughter of William Albert and Martha Emily Hodges Smith. On Feb. 20, 1919, in Leech Township, she was married to Raymond Henry Vaughan. He passed away Oct. 25, 1949. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, five sisters, two sons, one daughter and two grandchildren.
She was a member of the Fairfield Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Vaughan was a member of the National Association of Postmasters and the Fairbury Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving are five sons, Arnold Smith Vaughan, of Kingston, Okla.; Freeman L. Vaughan, of Forrest; Jerold Vaughan, of Fairbury, Gene Vaughan, of Cropsey; and Franklin D. Vaughan, of Fairbury; one sister, Emily J. Harris, of Fairbury; 33 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to her church or to Fairview Haven at Fairbury.
