Garrett Gordon Garner, 82, of Sims, passed away at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburg, Ind.

He was born in Wayne County on June 7, 1926, a son of Aberham Lincoln and Nora (Goldman) Garner. He married Karen Thomason. He was retired from the oil field.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City with the Rev. Ivan Kunice officiating. Burial will follow at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Garrett is survived by sons, Rodney Garner of Canton, Ohio, Rick Garner of Sims, Bradley Garner of Deroy, Ohio, Gordon Garner of Sims and Lance Garner of Deroy, Ohio; daughters, Dana Bailey of Fairfield and Barbara Garner of Marion; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Albert Garner, Wayne City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, one infant son and two grandchildren.

Garrett served in the U.S. Marines during World War II.
