Gladys Marie Preiss, 97, Wayne City, passed away at 10 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2008, at the Mt. Vernon Care Center.

She was born in Overland, IL, on Aug. 10, 1910, a daughter of Louis and Gertriuede (Miller) Jachobs. She married Raymond "Bud" Preiss on Nov. 11, 1934, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 2005. She was a sales clerk and nursing home aide.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City with the Rev. Ron Trotter officiating. Burial will follow at Thomason Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. 

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. service time on Wednesday.

Gladys is survived by a son, Chris Preiss and wife Carol of Braidwood, IL; daughter, Carlene Collins and husband Paul of Wayne City; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and two sisters.

Gladys was a member of Arrington Prairie Church.
