On Tuesday afternoon relatives at Cisne received a message bearing the sad intelligence that Mrs. Lucy A. Walker had reached the end of the roadway at the family home near Mt. Vernon. Ill. Yes she has reached the end and behind her are the mile-posts of a well rounded life. She has been an invalid and a constant sufferer for many years and many were the sacrifies she has made for her loved ones and those who needed help.
She was reared near Cisne and it gave her great pleasure and delight to call it home, and by her own request her remains were brought to the home of her niece Mrs. S. G. Cisne of Cisne and funeral held at the Christian church of which she was a devoted member. Her membership being at Mt. Vernon.
She was not given to display of her religion but lived a quiet modest Christian life in her home and her family and community were alike devoted to her.
Lucy Ann Murphy, eldest daughter of Wm, and Minerca J. Murphy was born in White County in 1842 and soon after came to this county with her parents where she spent the greater portion of. her long useful life. She was married to. Edmond A. Walker, December 11, 1862 and side by side they walked for more than 63 years until the summons came to call her home January 19, 1926. Two children survive her, Justin who resides at the family home at Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Rinnie Walker. One son Charles preceded her in death 8 years ago.
One sister Mrs. Olive Grove, of Fairfield, and one brother Augustus C. Murphy of Higginson, Ark., survive her. Five grand children and two great grand children with many other relatives and friends mourn their loss. At the time of her death she was 89 years, 5 months and 12 days old.
