Joseph Samford, son of Joseph R. and Mary (Jackson) Samford, was born near Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, April  9, 1856 and departed this life January 16, 1927 at his home south of Cisne, Illinois, age 70 years 9 months and 6 days.

He was united in marriage to Sarah McDuffee, October 17, 1875.  To this union nine children were born, seven of whom are still living. Mary E. and an infant son George R. having preceded the father in death.

Those surviving are: John, of De Soto, Illinois; Harry, of Cisne; Leonard of Geff; Dellos, of Eastland, Texas; Mrs Clara Dye, and Mrs. Ruth Hollinger of Cisne, and Mrs. Maude Brock, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

He confessed his faith in Christ at the age of fifteen and has remained a faithful member of the Christian Church since that time.

He leaves to mourn his departure his  wife and seven children, twenty-one grand children, three great chiIdren, one sister, Mrs. Olive Wood, Cisne, Illinois; one brother, William Samford, of Chrisman, Illinois and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Pleasant  Grove Church at 2 P.M.  January 17th, by  W. D. DeSalmn, assisted Rev.Pierson of the Mt. Vernon Christian Church.  Interrment at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
