Carl O. Thomason, 76, for many years the owner and operator of Thomason Furniture in Wayne City, died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Apr. 12 1996, at the Good Samaritan Hospital emergency room at Mt. Vernon. Mr. Thomason suffered a heart attack at his furniture store earlier.
He had served as a community leader in Wayne City for many years and was mayor of Wayne City for 16 years.
Funeral rites were conducted Monday afternoon (today) from the York Funeral Home in Wayne City with Rev. Mike Steed and Rev. Russ Johnson officiating. Interment was in Thomason Cemetery at Wayne City. A visitation was conducted at York Funeral Home Sunday evening.
He was born at Wayne City July 11, 1919, the son of Orville and Anna Dickey Thomason. On Dec. 1, 1946, at Sims, he was married to Irene Scott.
Mr. Thomason and his wife took over the family business in January of 1955, the store having been in business since 1904. Mr. Thomason was a founding member of the Wayne Fire Protection District No. 1, serving over 30 years, including 20 years as Assistant Chief.
During his terms as mayor at Wayne City, he developed the water and gas systems and he was also very active with Bean Capital Development, served on the Thomason Cemetery board and was a member and active with the Wayne City Baptist Church for 65 years. Mr. Thomason served in the Pacific Theatre in World War II with the 253rd Signal Corps.
Memorials are being accepted for the Wayne City Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two infant brothers.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Rahn, of Wayne City; two grandsons, Reed Thomason and Ryne Thomason; one granddaughter, Murisa Roy; and one great- grandson, Landon Roy.
