Mrs. Hassie Bendel, 96, of Charlotte, N. C., died at a nursing home in that city Thursday morning, Mar. 28, 1996.

A native of Hickory Hill Township, Mrs. Bendel was a sister of Walter G. Blackburn and an aunt of Mrs. Grace Sullivan here.

Mrs. Bendel had resided in North Carolina for 30 years, moving there from Chicago.

Funeral rites were conducted at St. Annes Catholic Church Monday morning in Charlotte, with burial there. A visitation and wake was held Sunday.  Attending the services were Mr. and Mr. Walter G. Blackburn. The Harry & Bryant Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She was born in Wayne County, the daughter of G. W. and Sina Blackburn.  She was married to William R. Bendel, Jr., about 1921. He passed away ten years ago.

Surviving are two sons, Bill, Jr., of Charlotte, N. C.; and Richard, in California; two grandchildren; a brother, Walter G. Blackburn, of Fairfield; and two sisters Dorothy Shaw, of Belleville; and Lena Walser, of Green Valley, Ariz.
