Mrs. Kathryn Veatch, 89, a lifelong Fairfield resident, the widow of John Veatch, died at 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, Mar. 23, 1983, at the Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel. Mrs. Veatch had been in ill health and suffered a stroke a week ago. She was stricken with a heart attack Sunday and was admitted to the hospital, where she experienced another stroke.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Nale's Funeral Home, with Rev. Roger Russell officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Thursday (tonight).
Mrs. Veatch was born Aug. 25, 1893, the daughter of George and Clarissa (Foster) Carey. She was a 1911 graduate of Fairfield Community High School and graduated from an Evansville, Ind., secretarial college. She was married to John Veatch in Fairfield July 30, 1920. Mr. Veatch, an Airtex Products employee, preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1978.
Mrs. Veatch was formerly employed at Sexton's Manufacturing Co., Campe's Manufacturing Co. and Airtex Products.
She was a charter member and the oldest member of the Ellen Moore United Methodist Church which opened in 1901. Mrs. Veatch had been a member of the Sunday School class, which was the forerunner of the present congregation.
Mrs. Veatch served as church secretary in earlier years and was a charter member of the Woman's Society. She also was a member of the Outreach Sewing Circle.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Evelyn) Daniel, of Mt. Carmel; one son, Charles (Chuck) Veatch, of Fairfield; nine grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband and one son, Fred (Bud) Veatch.
