Roger E. Tyler, 85, of Keenes a retired farmer and independent trucker, died at 6:20 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 5, 1983, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Tyler had been a patient in the V. A. Hospital at Marion several weeks ago, suffering from pneumonia. He had been admitted to Good Samaritan two weeks ago. He had suffered a heart attack on his way to the hospital, the family said.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Garrison Temple Church, north of Keenes, with Rev Merel Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Garrison Temple Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 6 o'clock Monday (tonight) at the Richardson Funeral Home, of Wayne City.
Mr. Tyler was born in Wayne County Apr. 7, 1897, the son of William A. and Leota (Garrison) Tyler. He was first married to Clara Tyler in 1919. She preceded him in death in 1925. He married Ina Ellis Oct. 31, 1927, at Mt. Vernon.
Mr. Tyler farmed and worked as an independent trucker hauling timber from out-of-state.
Mr. Tyler was a WW I veteran and served in the navy. He was a former member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Ina Tyler, of Keenes; one son, Jack Tyler, of Pawnee, Okla.; a stepson, Alvin Melton, of Centralia; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Beulah) Bloom, of Chicago Heights; one nephew, Paul Tyler, of Mt. Vernon, four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Roger Berlin Tyler, on Sept. 12, 1956, and a brother, George Tyler, in June of 1982.
