Nelson A. Marshel, 66, a retired Sims timber worker, was pronounced dead-on-arrival at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 1983, at the emergency room at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Marshel had been in ill health for the last five years, the Press was told.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City with Bro. Rudolph Schlag and Bro. Richard McCormick officiating. Burial followed in Thomason Cemetery at Wayne City.
Mr. Marshel was born in Wayne City Mar. 5, 1917, the son of Ephraim and Aria Faye (Carroll) Marshel. He was educated in the Wayne City and Sims schools. He married the former Martha McCormick in Mt. Vernon June 25, 1957. The couple lived in Sims during their marriage. They have no children.
Mr. Marshel attended both the Pin Oak Missionary Baptist and the Sims Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Marshel, of Sims; three sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Bess) Fenton, of Sims; Mrs. Virgil (Lois) Patterson, of Wayne City; and Mrs. Raymond (Doris) Cunningham, of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Marshel was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
