Dale M. Leathers, 71, of Cisne a retired machinist, died at 5:50 a.m.Wednesday, Apr. 27, at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. Mr. Leathers suffered from a rapidly growing cancer and had been a patient for two weeks. Prior to entering the hospital, he had been a patient at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He had only recently become aware of his illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hosselton Funeral Home, of Cisne, with Rev. Nolan Eubank officiating. Burial will be in the Jacobs Cemetery south of Orchardville. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Cisne.
Mr. Leathers was born in Orchard township, Wayne County Mar. 21, 1912, the son of George and Sarah (Vest) Leathers. He was educated at the Vest School at Orchardville. He was married to the former Novella Lee in Fairfield May 13, 1936.
The Leathers family resided in the St. Charles-Geneva area for many years,where Mr. Leathers worked as a machinist. They moved to Cisne in April of 1973 following Mr. Leathers' retirement. Mr. Leathers attended the Cisne United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Novella Leathers, of Cisne; one daughter, Mrs.Richard (Carol) Lingafelter, of Coal Valley; two sisters, Mrs. Leslie (Blanche) Richards, of Dewitt; and Mrs. Fern Sledge, of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Robert Leathers, of Cisne; and George Leathers, of Whittier, Calif.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and his parents.
