Arthur Clyde Renshaw, 73, a retired Mt. Erie farmer, poet and songwriter, died in the intensive care unit at 5:05 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 14, 1983, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Mr. Renshaw had been admitted to the hospital for a very short time prior to his death, complaining of chest pains. He had been hospitalized in January for nosebleeds and high blood pressure, the family told the Press
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Nale's Funeral Home. Rev. Lowell McDowell officiated with burial in Locust Grove Cemetery near Mt. Erie.
Mr. Renshaw was born on a farm south of Mt. Erie Sept. 16, 1909, the son of Harry and Louisa (Griffith) Renshaw. He was married to the former Margaret Sankovich on June 24, 1945, at Wood River. Mr. Renshaw spent most of his life farming south of Mt. Erie. For several years, he worked as a security guard with the Firestone Co. of Decatur. He later returned to farming. He also wrote songs which were recorded and aired on the local radio station. He was a poet and several of his poems were published in a book of poetry titled, "Poetry of Friends."
Mr. Renshaw was a veteran of W.W. II and served five years in Panama in the Army Airforce as M.P. He was discharged with the rank of sergeant.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Renshaw, of Mt. Erie; four sons, Joseph, Carl, Robert and Kenneth Renshaw, at home; one daughter, Linda Renshaw, at home; one brother, Albert Renshaw, of Kelso, Tenn.; two sisters, Hannah Renshaw and Mrs. Wanda Bye, both of Fairfield; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother and his parents.
