Gladys M. Overbee, 77, the widow of the late Bob Overbee, a resident of the Fair-Way Apartments, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Apr. 16, 1983, while enroute to the Ottawa Community Hospital, at Ottawa. Mrs. Overbee was recuperating at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Shirley Medler, of Marseilles, following a three-week hospitalization at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. She was stricken with an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nale's Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Dampeer officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be conducted from 6-9 p.m. Monday (tonight) at the funeral home for family and friends.
Mrs. Overbee was born near Fairfield June 18, 1905, the daughter of John Curtis and Lulu (Surrells) Owens. She was educated in the area. She was married to Robert Overbee on Dec. 4, 1926, in Louisville. He preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1975. Mr. Overbee was head of the print department at Airtex Products before his retirement. Mrs. Overbee was employed for over 50 years in the garment business and retired from the Fairfield Garment Company in 1970. Previously, she had been employed by Sexton Manufacturing Co. She held a variety of jobs through the years including sewing machine operator, floor lady and supervisor.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member for over 50 years of the Royal Neighbors.
Surviving include three daughters, Mrs. Wilburn (Ruth) Vaughan and Mrs. John (Roberta) Shelton, both of Fairfield; and Mrs. Charles (Shirley) Medler, of Marseilles; one brother, Roy Owen, of Evansville, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
