Kaufman, 70, Dies At Rt. 2, Wayne City Home

Robert M. Kaufman, 70, of Rt. 2, Wayne City, died at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday at his home, from a lingering illness.     He was a retired mechanic.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from St. John's Catholic Church at Piopolis, with Rev. Joseph Lawler officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery. Military rites at the gravesite will be conducted by
the McLeansboro American Legion. Visitation will be 5 to 8 o'clock Thursday evening (tonight) at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

He was born near Belle Rive Nov. 15, 1923, the son of Frank John and Emma Wangler Kaufman.  On Mar. 4, 1946, he was married to Florence E. Wisher. She preceded him in death, as did his parents and one brother.

Mr. Kaufman was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving are three sons, John F. Kaufman, of Ashtabula, Ohio; and Bob Kaufman and Rich Kaufman, both of Rt. 2, Wayne City; six daughters, Teresa Mitchell, of Mattoon; Lucille Smith, of Champaign; Pseu Schrader, of Ripon, Wis.; Cheryl Kaufman, of U.S.Army, Hawaii; Tina Self, of Harvard; and Nancy Kaufman, of Waterford, Wis.; 19 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lucille Webb, of Cisne; Helen Wheeler, of Paxton; and Teresa Wyman, of Paxon.
