Rev. James Clark, 82, Dies; Was Pastor Of GB Church

Rev.  James Clark, 82, who lived in Manor East, died at 5:43 a.m. Thursday (today) Oct. 27, 1994, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.   A longtime minister of the General Baptist Church, Rev. Clark retired in 1982 due to ill health and went through a long period of declining health.

He was pastor of the Fairfield General Baptist Church from 1961 to 1973, a period in which that church erected its new church building at the west edge of Fairfield. He had served as  president of the Fairfield Ministerial Alliance.  Rev. Clark also pastored General Baptist churches in Wayne, Jefferson and White counties.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from Nale's Funeral Home here, with Rev. Harold Hughes officiating.  Burial will be in the Burnt Prairie Cemetery.  Visitation at Nale's will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday.

He was born Nov. 26, 1911, at Dexter, Mo., the son of Alonzo and Hattie Butler Clark.  On Nov. 7, 1931, he was married to Shirley Tate.  Rev. and Mrs. Clark lived in Burnt Prairie a number of years, moving to Fairfield eight years ago.  He was a member of the West Antioch General Baptist Church at Mill Shoals. Rev. Clark was
a member of the Burnt Prairie Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star.

 Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Vonda Rheinecker, of Las Vegas, Nev.; Frances Strange, of Fairfield; and Ruby McDowell, of Fairfield; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-greandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
