Harold York, 74, lifelong resident of the Enfield area, died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 1994, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Ind., following a lengthy period of declining health. He was the father of Mrs. Steve (Linda) Lee, and brother of Bill York, both of Fairfield; and Gilbert York of Mill Shoals.
Mr. York was a retired farmer and in later years worked as a bus driver and custodian for the Fairfield grade school. He retired from these duties in 1985. He had been on dialysis for four years. This summer he had suffered a broken hip.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery in Norris City. Visitation at Campbell's will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday.
He was born near Enfield June 5, 1920, the son of Henry Earl and Bertha Nelson York. On Dec. 1, 1945, he was married to Nina E. Spence. Mr. York was a World War II Army veteran. He had been a member and active in the Asbury United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Brenda) White, of Sumner; and Mrs. Steve (Linda) Lee, of Fairfield; his mother, Mrs. Bertha York, of Enfield; four brothers, Robert of Enfield; Delbert, of Shawneetown; Gilbert of Mill Shoals; and Bill, of Fairfield; and four grandchildren.
