Elmo A. Cates, 90, of Flora, died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 1994, at the Hobbs Health Center in Hobbs, N.M.  He was a native of Cisne and was retired manager of the Clay Electric Cooperative based at Flora.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon (today) from the Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne, with burial in the Cisne Cemetery. A visitation was conducted Sunday evening at the Hosselton Funeral Home.

He was born at Cisne June 6, 1904, the son of John L. and Wilda Anderson Cates.  On Feb. 14, 1926, in Cisne, he was married to Velma M. Compher.  She passed away Oct. 4, 1990.  His parents and one sister also preceded him in death.  Mr. Cates was a member of the Rock Branch General Baptist Church near Cisne.

Surviving are one son, Robert E. Cates, of Hobbs, N.M.; one sister, Florence Leathers, of Geff; one brother, Estrage Cates, of Latham; three grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.
