A former Sims mayor, Leslie "Dink" Shewmake, 88, died at 12.12 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, 1985, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Mr. Shewmake served several terms as Sims mayor at various times during the past 30 years. He was president of Arrington Township Board during the mid-1950's, remaining on the board into the mid-1960's.
Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home at Wayne City, with Bro. Irwin Brookman and Bro. Don Breeze officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell Cemetery north of Wayne City.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A native of Wayne county, Mr. Shewmake was born July 15, 1897, the son of Frank and Luna Jones Shewmake. He married the former Bernice Baker June 14, 1919.
Mr. Jones was employed for many years with Jones Grocery Store in Sims.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Shewmake, of Sims; two step-brothers, Harold Kerr, of Geff; and Hubert Kerr, of Lancaster, Calif.; three half-sisters, Mrs. Imogene Farmer, Mrs. Neva Cook, and Mrs. Rolland (Genevieve) Wagner, all of Fairfield, and two step-sisters, Mrs. Roland (Geneva) Morris, of Fairfield and Mrs. Muriel Schneider, of Carlinville.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
