Former Wayne County Superintendent of Schools and businessman, Harry N. Irwin, 80, of Wayne City, died 9:20 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 1985, at his home, following a long illness.
Mr. Irwin served as school superintendent from 1959-63. He formerly owned Irwin Insurance Agency at Wayne City. Mr. Irwin started his teaching career in 1942 as a science teacher in Wayne City before being hired as Wayne City High School Principal during 1953-54.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wayne City First Christian Church with Rev. Everett Lemay officiating. Interment will follow in Thomason Cemetery there. Friends and family may call for visitation after 6 p.m. Monday (tonight) at Richardson Funeral Home, Wayne City.
Mr. Irwin was born in Wayne County, Aug. 17, 1905, the son of Wirt W. andMaude Hyre Irwin. His wife, France died in 1969. Mr. Irwin was a member of First Christian Church, Wayne City, and formerly served on the Rend Lake College Board.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Sandra Irwin, of Mt.Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
