Eldona, Iowa - William E. "Bill" Melton, 78, of Eldona, Iowa, and formerly of Centralia, died April 20, 2002, at his home.
He was born in Centralia, son of Claude O. and Faye (Henson)
Melton. He married Mary Ann Melvung.
He is survived by a son, Bill A. Melton of Minneapolis; two daughters,
Mary Jean Feser, of Manning, Iowa and Claudia Jackson of Des Moines, Iowa;
one brother, Robert L. Melton of Centralia; three sisters, LaDonne Leyerle
and Juanita Duff, both of Centralia, Beverly Jefferies and husband Jim
of Pond St. Lucie, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Melton served for three and a half years C.B.I. China, India, Burma
Theater during World War II. He attended grade school and high school in
Centralia, and played varisity football for the Centralia Orphans in 1942.
In his early years in Centralia, Mr. Melton was a featured soloist at the
concerts in Library Park and various other affairs. He received his master's
degree in Music Education from Drake University and taught school in Iowa
and Washington state. He was a member of the United Church of Christ. After
retirement, he owned and operated Eldona Flower Shop.
A private memorial service will be held for the family.
