Walter VanFossan, 86, of Appleton, Wis., died Thursday morning (today), May 2, 1996, at a medical center in that city.  He was a Wayne County native and an uncle of Mrs. Anna Massie and Mrs. Bernice Wood here.

Mr. VanFossan, retired from Kimberly-Clark paper Company, had suffered a series of strokes.  Rites are pending at Appleton, where he had lived for many years.  He left this area at age 16, first moving to Rockford before going on to Wisconsin.

 Mr. VanFossan was born in Wayne County Jan. 9, 1910, the son of William C. and Eliza Jane Markham VanFossan.  He was married to Bernice Raven. She preceded him in death.

Surviving are a son, Robert, of Appleton Wis.; and a number of grandchildren.
