Miss Mary Eldon Fleming Native Here, Dies.

A former Fairfield news reporter, Miss Mary Eldon Fleming, 70, died at 9a.m. Monday (today) Aug. 6, 1984 at the Flora Nursing Center. She was a sister of Fairfield accountant, Joseph Fleming.  She entered the nursing home in the early 1970's when her health failed.

Private graveside services will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Nale's Funeral Home in charge.

Miss Fleming was born in Fairfield May 8, 1914, the daughter of Eldon P. andMartha (Camp) Fleming. She was never married.  A graduate of FCHS, Miss Fleming later attended the University of Illinois where she graduated with a major in journalism. She was employed for a few years with the Wayne County Record as a newswoman, before entering McCormick Seminary in Chicago.  After graduating from seminary, in the early 1940's, Miss Fleming was employed as director of religious education in various Presbyterian churches in Illinois, New York, Texas, Oklahoma, and Washington, D.C.  before retiring.   Miss Fleming was a member of the Presbyterian church at Washington, D.C. She belonged to Phi Mu Sorority.

Survivors include her brother, Joe Fleming, of Fairfield; and two nephews, Joe Fleming, Jr., of Tampa, Fla., and Jeff Fleming, of Olney.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
