Mrs. Gladys L. Haynes, 65, a retired LPN of rural Geff, died unexpectedly at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 1982, in the intensive care unit at Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Haynes had been stricken at her home with a heart attack following the noon meal Wednesday and was taken to the hospital by her husband. She was admitted to the intensive care unit and suffered a cardiac arrest, the family said. Mrs. Haynes later experienced another cardiac arrest and was unable to be revived, according to the family.
Funeral services are pending at Hosselton's Funeral Home of Cisne.
She was born in Streator, Nov. 27, 1916, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Leslie. Mrs. Haynes was first married to Harley O. Billington at Crown Point, Ind., in 1938 and moved to Wayne county soon after their marriage. Mr. Billington was a farmer and died in 1951. She was next married to Meridith Haynes at Buckeye Christian church near Geff, Dec. 23, 1974. Mr. Haynes is a retired employee of the Caterpillar Tractor Co. Mrs. Haynes was first employed as a cook for several years at the Cisne grade school. She obtained her LPN degree and first worked for Memorial Hospital before being employed for eight years at Way-Fair Restorium. She retired from Way-Fair in 1974 following her marriage to Mr. Haynes. Mrs. Haynes was a country correspondent for the Wayne County Press. She wrote the weekly Buckeye News.
Mrs. Haynes was a member of the Buckeye Christian church, near Geff, and was active as a song leader and occasional Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include her husband, Meridith Haynes, of Geff; three sons, Ralph Billington, of Sullivan; and David and James Ray Billington, both of Cisne; one daughter, Mrs. Doyle (Marilyn) Briggs, of Bone Gap; one sister, Mrs. Leona Kelch, of Lakeland, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.
