Mrs. Irene Sanders, 75, a. longtime Fairfield area resident, widow of the late Tom Sanders, died at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 1983, at Way-Fair Restorium. Mrs. Sanders had been a resident at Way-Fair for the past three years and had been in declining health, the family said. She had resided on the family farm south of Fairfield until the time she entered the nursing home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home with Rev Glen Means officiating. Burial will be in Koontz Cemetery. Visitation will be held for family and friends from 6-9 p.m. Thursday (tonight) at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sanders was born in Big Mound township Oct. 30, 1907, the daughter of Charlie and Maggie (Hughes) Koontz. She attended the Hall School southwest of Fairfield. She was married to Tom Sanders who preceded her in death in Aug. 15, 1970. The Sanders family engaged in farming near Fairfield.
Mrs. Sanders was a member of the New Hope General Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Charles and Kenneth Sanders both of Fairfield; and Cari Sanders, of Lakewood, Colo.; four daughters, Mrs. Murrel "Mike" (Eva) Day, Mrs. Don (Ruth) Dawson, and Mrs. Stanley (Ellen) Coble, all of Fairfield; Mrs. Freda Biggerstaff, of Newburgh, Ind.; one brother, Edgar Koontz, of Fairfield; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Allison and Mrs. Lewis (Cora) Ivers, both of Fairfield; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
