Mrs. Opal Atkinson, 80, a Fairfield resident and former nurse's aide at Fairfield Memorial Hospital; died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 1982 at the hospital. She had been a patient at Way-Fair Restorium prior to her admission to the hospital.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday (today) at Johnson's Funeral Home with Rev. B. R. Cummins and Rev. Fred White officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Atkinson was born in Boyleston Mar. 8, 1902, the daughter of Robert and Cora (Jones) Young. She attended the Boyleston school. She was married to Charlie Franklin Atkinson, Apr. 7, 1923. He preceded her in death Dec. 12, 1972.
The Atkinson family farmed east of Geff until Mr. Atkinson's retirement. They then moved to Fairfield and lived on West King street. Mrs. Atkinson was a housewife and worked as a nurse's aide in the 1960s at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist church and the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Atkinson was a member of the Fairfield American Legion Auxiliary and was a past president.
Survivors include one son, Max Atkinson, of Geff; two daughters, Mrs. Leland (Delores) Rawls, of Fairfield; Mrs. George (Betty), Dotson, of Henderson, Nev.; one sister, Mrs. Clarice Roney. of Pinellas Park, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
