FAIRFIELD
A long time Carmi businesswoman, Marjorie M. Gant, 77, Fairfield, formerly of Carmi and Mt. Vernon, Ill., died at 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2007 at Way Fair Nursing home in Fairfield.
She was born Oct. 9, 1930 in Woodlawn, the daughter of Herbert and Leona (Brenton) Payne, and was married Aug. 4, 1966 to Harry Matthew Gant, who died Aug. 24, 1994. She was the owner of Harry's Fast Foods and Merle Norman Cosmetics in Carmi and was a member of First Christian Church of Carmi.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Charles Taylor of Fairfield, and Ginger and Chris Healy of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; four grandchildren, Cameron and Ciji Taylor, and Alexandra and Payne Healy; three sisters, Helen Schorfheide of Nashville, Ill., Virginia and Tom Budny of Chicago, and Kay and Ray Elliott of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; a brother, Hurley Payne of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Esther Payne of Albion. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Payne.
Graveside memorial services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at
White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. Friends are asked to meet at the
cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given in her name to Way Fair Nursing Home
in Fairfield and may be given at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, which
is in
charge of arrangements.
