One of Fairfield's oldest residents, Mrs. Martha Thomason, 105, died at 8:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 1984, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Thomason was a resident at Way-Fair Restorium for the past 10 years following a heart attack. She lived alone at her home until she was 95. Death was due to the infirmities of age, the Press was told.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Mills officiating. Burial was in Koontz Cemetery.
Mrs. Thomason was born near Mt. Vernon, Jefferson county, Oct. 13, 1878 the daughter of Joseph and Cordelia (Williams) Glenn. She was the last surviving family member of her generation and one of 13 children. She was married to Uriah Thomason Sept. 7, 1897. He preceded her in death November of 1939.
Both Mrs. Thomason and her husband were previously employed with Sexton Manufacturing in Fairfield. Mrs. Thomason worked for 10 years as an inspector. Her husband retired from the company after many years as a night watchman.
Mrs. Thomason was a member of the Apostolic Church on the Hill. In her younger days, she sang occasional solos and duets for church services.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Walter (Mary) Talbert, Peoria Heights; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two sons, one daughter, and her brothers
and sisters.
