Austin Burroughs died July 4, 1867 in Davenport, Iowa, of disease contracted in Andersonville prison where he was a prisoner for several months. He was a Private in Co. E, 40th Illinois Infantry, and a member of the GAR Post 139 of Jeffersonville. He was 26 years old.
