MRS. IRA MARTIN PASSES TO REWARD
Formerly of This City Dies Suddenly at Her Home in Clinton
Mrs. Ira Martin, mother of John Martin, local butcher, passed
away at 6:10 o'clock this morning in the family home at the extreme end
of West North street. Although she was passed 64 years of age, Mrs. Martin
had enjoyed the best of health. Last Sunday night she was taken suddenly
ill with a complication and since that time had been in a serious condition
but it was thought she would recover. Mrs. Martin was one of the best known
and best loved ladies of Clinton and her death comes not only as a shock
to the members of her family but to her friends.
Mrs. Martin, whose maiden name was Miriam Baker, was the daughter
of David and Elizabeth Baker and was born in Fairfield, Wayne County,
Illinois, sixt-four years ago. She lived on a farm with her parents until
she grew to womanhood. At the age of seventeen years she married Ira
Martin. They continued to make their home at Fairfield and about fifteen
years ago they moved to Clinton, where they have since resided.
To Mr. and Mrs. Martin eight children were born. Two daughters and
three sons preceding their mother in death a number of years ago. The three
surviving children are: John Martin, of Clinton; Mrs. Lulu Harry
of Seymour, Ind. and Arthur Martin, of Chicago. Besides the children
she is survived by her aged husband and two brothers, Cloyd Baker who
is Superintendent of the Earl Scool, 61 and Wood Streets, Chicago and Sherman
Baker of Johnsonville, Ill. and a number of grandchildren.
Deceased wa a member of the M. E. Church and the Rebekah Lodge of Fairfield,
Ill.
The funeral services will be held from the late residence on West
North street, Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. A. M. Wells, pastor
of the M. E. church officiating. The Rebekah lodge will be in charge.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
