Nathan Atteberry died at his residence in Barnhill Township, Aug 5, 1888,  after a short illness. Aged 84 years, 11 months and 25 days. The deceased was born in South Carolina, (Columbia) August 10, 1803. In early childhood he came with his parents to Grayson County, Kentucky, where he remained until 1820 when he came to Wayne County, Illinois, where he continued to reside until his death.

He was first married in Wayne County in 1824 to Miss Maria Butler, with whom he lived until her death in 1863. he again married in Wayne County in 1864 to Mrs. Martha A. Loftus, who still survives him. He leaves 8 children and was united with the Regular Baptist Church at Hopewell in the year 1820 and was baptized in Close's Creek where his membership remained until 1855, when he united with the Missionary Baptist Church at Pleasant Gorve. Remains were laid to rest in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
