Reuben Baker a former citizen of Wayne county recently died at Elk Falls, Ks. We make the following extract from a published obituary.
"Eld. Reuben Baker, deceased Nov. 9, 1886. Born April 7, 1836 in Columbiana County, Ohio. His parents moved from that state to Illinois while he was quite a boy. When he grew to manhood he married Elizabeth Book in Big Mound Prairie, Wayne county, Illinois, baptized into the fellowship of Big Mound Prairie Baptist Church by Eld. E. W. Overstreet of Kentucky in 1858. He was ordained to the work of the gospel ministry the 5th Sabbath in January 1861. Many people were converted under his ministry. During his work for Christ he baptized about 638 - a grand record indeed. Emigrating from Illinois in 1871, he settled in this state (Kansas) and at his death he was a member of the Union Center church not far from Elk Falls."
