GRANDMA BAKER AT REST
Caroline Elizabeth Baker was born in Kentucky, September 23, 1827; died at her home, three miles south of Moline, December 6, 1900, of dropsy. Her age was 75 years, 2 months and 14 days.

Mother Baker moved with her parents, while yet young, to St. Louis, and later to Wayne County, Illinois, where on September 17, 1844, whe was married to George Baker, who still survives.  Their union was blessed with ten children, three sons and seven daughters, of whom nine now live to mourn the loss of a most affectionate and tender mother.

Mrs. Mary J. Book, Mrs. Rhodina Webb, Mr. A. H. and Mr. Martin Baker, of Moline, Kansas; Mrs. Sibbil Ford and Theodore Baker, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; Mrs. Sarah A. Powell, Boyleston, Illinois; Mrs. Amanda Taylor, of Greenfield, Missouri and Malvina Brisendin, of Cherryvale, Kansas, are the children, all of whom have grown to be highly respected men and women of the several communities where they live.

Mr. and Mrs. Baker moved to Kansas in 1871, settling near Elk Falls, where they were held in the highest esteem by all who enjoyed their acquaintance.  Grandma Bakr became a member of the M. E. Church at the age of sixteen and lived a true and faithful Christian life for fifty-seven years, during which time she did much for the sick and the poor, never missing an opportunity to bring sunshine and hope into the homes and hearts of her neighbors and friends.

Fifty-seven years of unceasing labor for her Father's kingdom was rewarded while here by sincere and profound respect and admiration of her friends, and her heavenly reward will be in no degree less than her well-doing while with us.

Mother Baker was made to feel that her labors were not in vain and the day before she died expressed a willingness to pass from her earthly home into the great beyond.

Rev. J. P. Armstrong, of the M. E. Church of Moline, administered the last sad rites for the dead.

After a long life of usefulness, Mother Baker rests in the Ames Chapel Cemetery.

Peace to a mother's sacred memory.
