David Baker, Jr was son of David and Sarah (Dunlap) Baker
Wayne County Record
David Baker was born in Stark County, Ohio, November 21, 1828;
died in Fairfield, August 21, 1912, aged 83 years and 9 months. At the
age of 13 he came with his father to Wayne County and has lived in this
county continously ever since. His father opened the farm later sold to
the County as a poor farm about 3 miles northwest of Fairfield. Feb. 15,
1851 he was married to Elizabeth Monroe. Eight children were born
to this union, four of whom with Mrs. Baker survive him. The surviving
children are Mrs. Ira Martin, Clinton, Ill; Marion A. Baker,
Denver, Colo; Ira C. Baker, Chicago, Ill.; and Sherman Baker,
Johsonville, Ill. At his marriage he located on a farm in Arrington township.
About 20 years ago he sold his farm and moved to Fairfield and has lived
here ever since. Early in his life he united with the Methodist Episcopal
Church and has always been active in Church work. While on th farm his
membership was in the old Mt. Zion church on the Johnsonville circuit.
When he became a resident of Fairfield he transferred his membership here.
His last years were spent in trying to build up the Mission M. E. church
in the east end of Fairfield. No one shall miss him more than those who
attend the Mission. He is not dead, he sleepeth.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. N. S. Lanter, his pastor.
