Jack Lowry, 84, Dies
Roland S "Jack" Lowry, 84, a Wayne City resident, died at 4:16 a.m. Tuesday at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Lowry had been a patient in the hospital since Feb. 16 when he was admitted with gallbladder disease. He underwent surgery and his health continued to decline due to urinary and other complications. He had been in good health until a year ago when he experienced his first gallbladder attack.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday (today) at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Rev. William Causer officiating. Burial was in Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.
He was born in Dahlgren Mar. 4, 1898, the son of Andrew J. and Rosa Belle (Moyer) Lowry. He was educated in the Dahlgren area and lived there until he moved to Mt. Vernon later in life.
He was married to Lillian Quinn Kirk, who died Mar. 31, 1974. He married the former Mable Wood Miles in Wayne City May 14, 1976.
Mr. Lowry was employed in several occupations during his life. He engaged in farming as a young man and later did general construction work around Wayne County and surrounding areas. In later life he was a housepainter and paperhanger. He resided in Mt. Vernon for 30 years before moving to Wayne City after his marriage to Mrs. Miles.
He was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel; one brother, Raymond Lowry, of Deerfield; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Taylor, of Jacksonville; one step-son Richard Miles, of Hannibal Mo.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Barbara Huff, of San Jose, Calif.; Mrs. Ann Condon, of Chicago; nine step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one sister, six brothers and his parents.
