WAYNE COUNTY PRESS

William Payne was born in Wayne County, November 23, 1832 and died Ferbuary 9th, 1926, at the age of 93 years, 2 months and 17 days. In his early manhood he was married to Sarah Ann Maulding. To this union one child was born, who died in infancy. The mother's death soon followed.  He was afterwards married to Lucy Maulding. To this union five children were born, two boys, John and Isaac, and three girls, Sarah Ann, deceased, Margaret, now Mrs. Wm. Moss, of Macedonia, and Delia, now Mrs. S.H. Holman, of Portigiville, Mo. Their mother died later and in 1871 he was united in marriage to Julia Lowery. Nine children were born to this union. The following children of this marriage survive: Cora Esmon, Cleve, Ralph, and Omer, all of Wayne City. His wife, 41 grand children, 48 great grand children and one great, great grand child and a host of other relatives and friends survive. He was converted and joined the Baptist church when quite young, later he joined the Christian Churchof Middleton, where he remained a member until death.
