Paul D. Porter. Long-Time Geff Area Resident, Dies

Paul D. Porter, 74, well-known Geff resident and retired Lamard township road commissioner, died unexpectedly at his home about 3:15 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Porter's body was found by his wife, Mildred, when she returned home from work at Cisne Manor.   Mrs Porter called Bob Johnson, Wayne County coroner to the home where he pronounced Mr. Porter dead at the scene. Death was from an apparent heart attack, and Mr. Porter had previously been hospitalized for a heart condition.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday (today) at the Jlhnson Funeral Home in Fairfield with Rev. Fred White officiating. Burial was in Bestow Cemetery at Geff.

Mr. Porter was born in Wayne county Nov. 21 1907, the Son of Harry and Vicie (Matthews) Porter. He attended school in the county and was a lifelong resident.

He was married to the former Mildred Sanders Apr. 30, 1927, at her home in Palestine. The couple was married by Mrs. Porter's father, who was a Methodist minister.

The Porters engaged in farming prior to Mr. Porter serving as road commissioner.  He retired four years ago after serving 18 years in that capacity.

He was a member of the Victory United Methodist church near Geff and belonged to the Wayne County Saddle Club.
 
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of Geff, two daughters, Mrs. Betty Boxell, of Princeton, Ind.; and Mrs. Carolyn Hosselton, of Geff; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Brock, of Bedford, Ind., six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.      He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, and one granddaughter.
