Mr. O'Malley had been in declining health for two or three years suffering from diabetis and various complications. His health forced his early retirement from the Press in November of 1974.

He had been in the St. Louis hospital since June 1, when he was transfered from Fairfield Memorial Hospital. In the final few days before his death, his family thought he was improving, but he took a sudden turn for the worse.

He worked over 20 years setting the type that has filled the Press columns.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Nales Funeral Home with Bro. Carroll Kakac officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Mr. O'Mally was born south of Fairfield Mar. 26, 1914, the son of James and Florence (Hadden) O'Malley. He grew up in Fairfield and attended Fairfield High School.

On Feb. 21, 1941, he was married to Pauline Creighton, who survives. To them was born one son, Earl, of Oak Park.

Mr. O'Maley worked as a linotype operator in Mt. Vernon and Mt. Carmel, in addition to Fairfield. He worked for the old Wayne County Examiner and the Wayne County Record, before joining the Press staff.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a former Mason in Mt. Vernon. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Fairfield.

Surviving are his widow, Pauline; one son, Earl, of Oak Park; three grandchildren; one brother, James, of Champaign; and four sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Mary) Walters, and Mrs. Jake (Lena) Shinabarger, both of Fairfield; Mrs. Maurice (Myrtle) Miles, of Sims; and Mrs. John (Ada) Gaddis, of Laramie, Wyo.

One sister,  Opal, preceded him in death.
