Floyd Pollard, 74, Dies

Floyd Pollard, 74, a well known Burnt Prairie area man, died at 5:40 p.m. Monday in the Olney Hospital.  Mr. Pollard, a teacher in many of the rural schools around Burnt Prairie, had been in failing health for quite some time, suffering from a malignancy. He had been hospitalized on several occasions.

Services were conducted at Nales Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday (today) with Rev. T. R. Jones officiating assisted by Rev. Raydean Davis. Burial was in the Burnt Rrairie Cemetery.

Mr. Pollard was born in Wayne County Oct. 20, 1901 the son of William and  Belle (Freeland) Pollard. On Dec. 30, 1925, he was married to Irene Johnson,  who survives.  He taught in rural one-room schools for many years in the Burnt Prairie area. His family said he had also farmed and leased his farm land.   Mr. Pollard attended the East Antioch Church and the Mill Shoals Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow, Irene; one son, Floyd D., of Fairfield; three  daughters, Mrs. George (Lilly Belle) Perry, of Albion; Mrs. Jim (Kathleen) Carter, of Evansville; and Mrs. Martin (Jeanine) Phillips, of Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and one greatgranddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ray; an infant sister, Veda, and a sister, Florence Harris.
